Proper split pea soup

Last time I made split pea I couldn’t find ham hocks. So just used ham. It was ok but could have been better.

So this time I did it properly.

Yummy smoked bacon bone and split peas.

 

Water, salt, garlic and cook for hours.

Interesting reflection from the window there…

At some point before being done (probably a few hours from when it’s done) add some carrots, or anything else you might want in there that you don’t want turning to mush. If you don’t mind the mush factor add it at the beginning.

Eat or freeze. This made about a gallon of pea soup.

I went a bit nuts with the slow cooker so look for more updates soon.
